Learning Journey to Solar Blue-Green Roof & CHINT SP Co-Lab hosted by IET Singapore Local Network

Date: 2 April 2026, Thursday

Time: 4pm to 6pm

Venue: Block T12 Room T12101C Singapore Polytechnic

Participants will visit the actual solar panel installation and understand how easily planting can be integrated into an actual solar panel installation on the roof. The explanation of the installed 5G AIoT sensors, weather station and cloud programmed dashboard will be elaborated further. The live dashboard readings showing that solar panel temperature, floor temperature, power and energy improvement of PV system will be explained further. When there is planting under the solar panel, the roof floor temperature reduces and the reflected heat into the room below the planting area is lowered significantly. The visit to the rooms beneath the solar panel installation will be the evidence of the benefit of this installation.

CHINT is a major manufacturer for power equipment solution devices. They provide power and equipment solutions to meet the growing demands for renewable energy and sustainable development as well as digital transformation. CHINT manufacturing line for circuit breaker is producing 3 million units daily for the global market, and the visit to this co-lab facility for this learning journey will allow participants to understand more about the different electrical products and also hands-on session to operate on the product and equipment on a live switchboard.

Technical Talk: Battery Energy Storage Systems, Robotics & Automation hosted by IET Singapore Local Network

Date: 26 March 2026, Thursday

Time: 6.30pm to 10pm

Venue: Singapore Polytechnic Graduates’ Guild, Grand Ballroom Level 3 , Singapore , Singapore

About

The event aims to provide insights on the battery energy storage systems. The speaker, Dr. Cheng Kai Xian will provide an overview on the battery energy storage systems. Then, he discusses further on how batteries are designed, manufactured, operated and maintained, as well as eventually disposed to meet the safety standard. Dr. Cheng will also give some elaboration on how large scale battery systems are deployed into electrical grid for supporting the electricity consumption needs.

The second speaker, Mr. Jayathas will discuss how robotics and automation brings disruptive changes to our workplace and daily lives. The use of robots allows human to offload some works to them, however, this increases our dependency to robots. Mr. Jayathas will discuss what we should learn and balance the pros and cons when using the robotics technology.

Tech Talk 1: Overview of battery energy storage systems (BESS)

Synopsis:

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) introduce a distinct set of risks that must be clearly understood to ensure safe and reliable deployment. This presentation examines the nature of these risks across the BESS lifecycle, from the cell level through modules, systems, and ultimately grid integration. It then highlights how these risks can be managed effectively with a clear, structured framework. Bringing these elements together, the presentation offers an end to end, cell to grid perspective on BESS safety — showing how a comprehensive approach enables consistent, high quality, and resilient energy storage deployments.

Tech Talk 2: Human and robots: how we work together?

Synopsis:

As robots move from factory floors to our office spaces, the workplace is changing fast. This session looks at how we can stay ahead by leaning into the strengths only humans have. We’ll talk about:

•    Soft Skills with a Human Touch: Why empathy and building real relationships are more valuable than ever.
•    Thinking Outside the Box: Using critical thinking and creativity to guide AI, not just follow it.
•    Getting Tech-Fluent: Understanding the “language” of robots (like Python) so you can work alongside them with confidence.
•    Better Together: Learning how to hand off the boring stuff to machines so you can focus on the big picture.x
